Let's unpack that. If you deeply reflect about it, God has to be somebody to have a personal relationship with Him. One can’t have a personal relationship (emotional bonds, mutual interactions, and a sense of shared experience or intimacy) with energy or matter; nor can one have a personal relationship with a mental construct, a concept if you will. These are all designated as an “it.” And a philosophical concession must be made to even begin to understand and “wrap one’s head” around the idea of a First Cause with will, let alone an infinite one.
This philosophical concession requires spiritual insight to know (via faith) this infinite first cause is a personality also. The inability, or more so, the reluctance to accept the idea of an infinite First Cause as a personality in itself is the basis and foundation for materialism to be assumed primal and sacrosanct in the universe. This particular first cause is what Lucifer and subsequently Satan decided – that a personal first cause doesn’t exist.
Manovandet Melchizedek tells us in paper 53 that Satan proclaimed the Lucifer manifesto two hundred thousand years ago asserting “…that worship could be accorded the universal forces—physical, intellectual, and spiritual—but that allegiance could be acknowledged only to the actual and present ruler, Lucifer, the “friend of men and angels” and the “God of liberty.”[ref] Manovandet goes on to reveal that “… Lucifer charged that the Universal Father did not really exist, that physical gravity and space-energy were inherent in the universe, and that the Father was a myth invented by the Paradise Sons to enable them to maintain the rule of the universes in the Father’s name. He denied that personality was a gift of the Universal Father.”
The truth of this reality is that this rebellion occurred approximately one hundred and sixty thousand years before Adam and Eve set foot on the planet. While primitive humans at the time of the rebellion were not factually aware of the rebellion, (they hardly had a concept of the spirit world) the ramifications of the breakdown of the celestial guidance and support, albeit mostly in the background, dealt havoc with the miniscule progress of evolutionary religion toward monotheism. The universal plan that all Planetery Princes are commissioned to execute was fundamentally terminated.
In effect, as the revelation discloses, it's no wonder that self-serving power, unbridled self-will, unregulated self-expression, self-motivated liberty, self-assertion, and self-admiration are the harbingers of false liberty. Such selfish pursuits lead to disorder and moral decay. true liberty must be balanced by law, order, and responsibility, while false liberty is seen as a distortion of these values, leading to chaos and destruction rather than genuine freedom. False liberty, seeks freedom without accountability, which often leads to the violation of other individuals’ rights and well-being. Liberty that disregards duty, ethics, or cosmic law results in chaos. William Golding painted this picture and outcome quite well in Lord of the Flies.[ref]
I point to the Lucifer rebellion as one of the primary sources for the unsettled situation Urantian humanity finds itself in at the first quarter of the 21st century. This is not to make excuses; it is a fact that the revelation informs the open-minded individual who will take upon him/herself courageous and independent cosmic thinking, for this religious disclosure is of cosmic dimensions. At this moment it is what it is, but it doesn't have to be that it be.
This unsettled situation is best seen by examining the view of God that the world's religions promulgate. There may be others, I'm offering these as a starting point. The graphic that heads this page advances five primary views as "ism's" that the various religions propound as the foundation of everything else that emanates as dogma, doctrine, and modes of relationships. What can be more important than the way one views God? Doesn't one's view sanctify the relationship one has with the Absolute Personality? Everything else derives. Every relationship with every other personality (humans and angels) follows.
There are essentially two overarching Western (Occidental + Levant) religious theistic models that deal with how God created and interacts with the universe: Deism and Theism. Fundamentally, with classical Deism, God creates the universe and then steps away from his creation to let it run its course.[ref] With Theism, essentially God creates the universe and all its inhabitants similarly to Deism, but He keeps a providential hand in all matter’s material and spiritual. The story of Jonah is a reasonable depiction of how God interacts with his creation, especially with an individual person in relation to the duty and loyalty aspects of morality. [ref]
The Urantia Book (UB) model integrates and elevates both of these two God-driven positions elegantly and sublimely; this has gone relatively unnoticed even among UB students. While both Deism and Theism believe quite differently in how God maintains the universe after creation, both agree that God created the universe and humans at some "time" -- even though God is believed to be transcendent to the universe and therefore exists beyond time. [ref]
Thus, there is relative truth in both Deism and Theism that the UB model brings forward. God in fact does create, but He creates by segmenting His infinity initially into Absolutes - six plus Himself. What is significant about this is the idea that even though the cosmic structure the Fifth Epochal Revelation - if one assesses the apparent “pure revelation” with an open mind - promulgates a unique universe architecture out of an apparent set of adverse models. A Divine Counselor weaves this renovating model into an intellectual and visceral foundation to set the stage that while much of the hard won evolutionary religious and scientific thinking is flawed factually to varying degrees, there is definite truth in all of the current conventional beliefs and their derivations. This, in our minds, sets the stage for the subsequent use of human thought to be used masterfully throughout the rest of the revelation. The pattern found throughout the papers is obvious and significant.
In a rare adverse rendition, both a Melchizedek and a Mighty Messenger assert that the extremes of both materialism and pantheism should be avoided as philosophies because neither recognizes the reality of personality—permanence in the presence of change. Pantheism is a “colossal [philosophic] error” because, it too, omits the existence of will; without will as a unifying and diversifying element, there is no logical value inherent in the reality of morality.[ref] in fact, there is no purpose for it! Pantheism would be a viable model of the universe if the I AM could not divest Himself from infinity by creating another absolute infinite personality besides Himself. There would be no personalities in the universe to hypothesize how the Infinite Infinitude (First Source with will) created the universe.
The UB model newly reveals that at some paradoxical “moment in eternity” this diffusion of infinite reality segmented Itself into the six other Absolutes, all also infinite. It supports and raises the theistic position of God as a singularly transcendent personality as a focalized source of the universe (in both Deistic and Theistic positions) and as the source of that Absolute (Paradise) that is the origin of time and master pattern of finity. It logically reveals God at the center of all creation.
The concept of seven Absolutes of Infinity provides a coherent purpose of why God is at the center of all reality. The atheistic position that the universe is infinitely old (again in order to obviate a Supreme Being) is again buoyed in the concept of Absoluteness: beginningless, endless, timeless, and spaceless. Absolute time is eternity. Materialism ironically posits absolutes.
The revelation also depicts that concepts of potential are important to understand in relation to the actuality of reality. The cosmic model denotes two Absolutes of potential as wellsprings for an infinite amount of either personal or impersonal components of the universe. A third Absolute coordinates and manages the tension between the dynamic infinity of the personal (designated as The Deity Absolute) and the static infinity of the impersonal (designated as The Unqualified Absolute). Current philosophy understands these basically as organic and inorganic respectively, or as life and energy alternatively. The revelation makes an extraordinary statement that on subinfinite levels (there are two: finite and ultimate/transcendental) the three potential Absolutes differentiate functionally in time (finity) as three, but in infinity they are ONE.
As stated above, the Urantia revelation clearly discloses that The First Source and Center – God – originates reality by partitioning His infinity while remaining the inexhaustible Infinitude, yet delegating subsequent creation functions to “celestial agents,” be they absolute or finite. The revelation makes known there arises an almost limitless panoply of personalities between God and humans - all at the same time that an infinite fragment of God resides with humans and rarely with others! A Secondary Lanonandek Son informs us in a paper called The Planetary Adams that the order of Adams and Eves “are the last and the indispensable link connecting God with man.” As immortal Material Sons and Daughters, Adam and Eve “[bridge] the almost infinite gulf between the eternal Creator and the lowest finite personalities of time [humans].”[ref]
This model of God at the center of all reality: spiritual, mindal, material, potential, and actual may appear novel, but it is essentially the integration and culmination evolutionally of all previous models Urantian humanity has concocted. It has taken revelation to make sense of all of what might appear to be a tower of Babel with respect to Urantian genesis and universe cosmogny.
George Park, a long-term student of the revelation has written extensively about the revealed cosmology and universe of universes model that is presented in the UB. In George's online book called The Eternal Isle[ref], he has written this:
The beauty of revealed cosmology comes from its placement of the Creator, Controller, and Upholder of Reality at the physical center of the universe of universes. Everlasting energy is created here and there in the universe by various intelligent agents of Deity. Finite space expands and contracts in response to the will of Deity. Space expansion is not initiated by a mechanical Big Bang. The universe has a beautiful overall structure and order which flows from the truth that it is evolving toward divine physical perfection in response to the eternal purposes of God. This beauty is manifest in the concentration of the galaxies of the universe about a single universal plane of creation. The whole of reality is dynamically unified about the presence of God at the center of the universe of universes. An absolute gravitational attraction causes all of creation to revolve majestically about him. The universe of universes is supremely beautiful, because there are places in it for both man and God. Man dwells in a well ordered and friendly universe under the sovereign rule of God.George goes on to posit that "there is enough objective hard data to scientifically confirm the essential structure and features of the cosmology first revealed in The Urantia Book." I encourage those with the patience and desire to learn more about a universe model that fits not only scientific but religious views to take an honest look at George's work. I find it truly amazing. The data is coming in faster than science can process it, but it is clear that "The plane of creation can be seen. The gravitational revolution of the whole universe about this absolute center can be confirmed. A hierarchical structure of galaxies, galactic clusters, and space levels can be discerned. The physical locations of the seven heavens, first revealed to mankind thousands of years ago, can be charted at last."[ref]
