About the Author

Bob Debold's life experience, like many others of the baby-boom era, has been relatively diverse. Varied exploration, continuous learning, and the incessant pursuit of both practical and transcendent truths define them as an overall pursuit of the truth of reality. A former high school math teacher, corporate leader, lifelong athlete, and engaged grandparent, Bob has consistently blended intellectual curiosity with physical discipline. His passions include dreaming about the future of humanity and unraveling the mysteries of how God’s universe is constructed, as revealed through years of dedicated study of The Urantia Book.

With a professional career spanning roles as a government consultant in the IT business and owner of a successful services enterprise, Bob has proven adept at navigating complex systems while maintaining a focus on growth and leadership. His MA in organizational leadership dovetails seamlessly with his decades-long study of the fifth epochal revelation, allowing him to bridge its revelatory cosmology with real-world applications. Over nearly five decades, he has studied and presented various revelational topics alongside like-minded individuals who share a commitment to the truth embedded in this revelation.

Above all, Bob is a devoted parent and grandparent, deeply connected to family life, which enriches his worldview. His personal pursuits extend to his ongoing quest for the perfect golf swing, a passion that has brought him close to achieving the rare milestone of shooting his age. Each spring, Bob embarks on a pilgrimage to the Southwest United States to reconnect with family and friends, engage in spirited rounds of golf, and enjoy the excitement of March Madness basketball. When not on the course, he’s been known to dabble in surfing, mountain climbing, caddying for grandkids, fishing, and blending adventure with moments of peaceful reflection.

A contributor and curator of content on www.deboldgroup.com, Bob seeks to offer for those who may have the interest or just by chance wander past the site, a constellation of essays exploring both the expanded Tofflerian concept he calls the Fourth Wave and the deeper revelations of The Urantia Book. Through his own writings and carefully selected works from others, he hopes the material offers a gateway for both students of the revelation and open-minded newcomers seeking to suspend disbelief and engage with ideas that challenge the materialist view of reality. For those unfamiliar with The Urantia Book, Bob encourages exploration through article "trailers," which serve as entry points that may resonate with what he fondly calls "truth bells."

Through his work, Bob aspires to guide readers toward an expanded understanding of the fifth epochal revelation and how it offers a profound glimpse into the nature of reality and human destiny.

An Opening Reflection

For many years this website has been unused except for that as a test site; it has been neglected of offering any written material for consumption for a myriad of good and valid reasons. This renaissance of sorts is intended to focus on my nearly fifty-year study of The URANTIA Book and how it has affected my thinking about God, the universe, and the world. The idea of Route 66 as the "mother road," famously described by John Steinbeck, connects deeply to the opening reflection of the site by symbolizing a journey of discovery, transformation, revival, and progressive growth.

Just as Route 66 served as a vital artery for those seeking a new life and a sense of belonging during the Dust Bowl era, this website embarks on a renaissance of intellectual and spiritual exploration. Like Steinbeck's nostalgia for the old road, I am rekindling a past exploration of ideas, now renewed with additional revelation-derived topics to hopefully influence others in their search for meaning in an increasingly complex world. Pull down the "topics" navigation button and check out what we have here so far.

What caught my attention sometime in the early 1970's, almost at the same time as I came upon the URANTIA Book, was Alvin Toffler's ideas about how human society evolved against large waves of functional change. Toffler illustrated this elegantly in his book The Third Wave. The idea of a "FOURTH WAVE" is my integration of reflecting on the supernal revelations The URANTIA Book discloses regarding the origin, history, and destiny of our planet that ‘cosmicize’ Toffler's wave theory.

For me, the URANTIA Book reveals epochal insights of cosmic truth, universe beauty, and divine goodness. For example, we are informed by a Melchizedek that "... Mortal existence must be visualized as consisting in the intriguing and fascinating experience of the realization of the reality of the meeting of the human upreach and the divine and saving downreach." [ref]

This particular statement written by a Melchizedek of Nebadon is found in a paper called The Foundations of Religious Faith. And the entire paragraph from which the Melchizedek concludes is in the section entitled The Certainty of Religious Faith. It cosmically and spiritually enhances the apparent cosmic truth behind the fresco by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel called “The Creation of Adam.” Even though the facts the painting portrays are wholly erroneous, it is the truth that remains eternal. The near touching of the spirit of God to Adam in the fresco portrays God as a fatherly figure. As a worldly father to humanity (Adam) where the “spark of life”[ref] is being delivered is truly strong in symbolism and has concealed cosmic truth represented. The Melchizedek unseals this truth through revelation.

I don’t want to be overly sentimental about the painting, but it’s no small fact that according to sources referenced in Wikipedia, it is the most copied and written-about art work in the history of man so far. Maybe someday the last sentence in this paragraph by the Melchizedek will inspire an artist to update the facts symbolically without losing the original inspiration. The entire paragraph is thus:

102:6.10 (1125.5) Organic evolution is a fact; purposive or progressive evolution is a truth which makes consistent the otherwise contradictory phenomena of the ever-ascending achievements of evolution. The higher any scientist progresses in his chosen science, the more will he abandon the theories of materialistic fact in favor of the cosmic truth of the dominance of the Supreme Mind. Materialism cheapens human life; the gospel of Jesus tremendously enhances and supernally exalts every mortal. Mortal existence must be visualized as consisting in the intriguing and fascinating experience of the realization of the reality of the meeting of the human upreach and the divine and saving downreach.

I could have chosen virtually any paragraph from this huge tome of a revelation to make some opening remarks. I chose this one because it hits a number of salient aspects the revelation reiterates through its wide panoply of revelators. [ref]

The papers clearly portray that we humans are “wired” for worship and wisdom, thus the certainty of religious faith. When I use the term “wired” I use it as a metaphor for the revealed cosmic detail the papers provide regarding the adjutant mind-spirits and associated physical and spirit enablers. For example, in part IV of the Urantia Book, Jesus reveals to Ganid cosmically expanded detail as an embellishment to his discussions with the teenager 130:2.8 (1431.3). (Ganid is from India who traveled with his dad Gonod and Jesus for two years along during Jesus’ pre-public ministry years).[ref] In this particular discussion Jesus responds to Ganid’s question regarding whether a dog has a soul. Jesus of course says ‘no.’

An animal lacks the capability of spiritual discrimination and truth choosing that makes mortal man a moral being. In the revelation, Jesus relates this capability to Ganid as “mental powers” but understandably doesn’t address the existence of, nor the processes of which, the adjutant mind-spirits function. The papers reveal – potentially for the first time in Urantian human history – the universal cosmic structure for that which actualizes a human. (It requires the top two of seven mind-spirits as well as the wrapping of the Holy Spirit for the activation of the “wire.”). The fifth epochal revelation develops this specificity; it requires at a minimum a dozen other necessary components such as personality and the role of the Infinite Spirit as well as cosmic mind to grasp the meanings and values associated with how important a human actually is in the universe of universes. What got me thinking about Toffler’s wave theory as a valid way to envision how macro society operates is found in paper 81 Development of Modern Civilization. In section 6 “The Maintenance of Civilization,” an Archangel writes these statements indited in 1935:

81:6.30 (910.3) Social, artistic, technical, and industrial specialists will continue to multiply and increase in skill and dexterity. And this diversification of ability and dissimilarity of employment will eventually weaken and disintegrate human society if effective means of co-ordination and co-operation are not developed. But the intelligence which is capable of such inventiveness and such specialization should be wholly competent to devise adequate methods of control and adjustment for all problems resulting from the rapid growth of invention and the accelerated pace of cultural expansion.

81:6.31 (910.4) 11. Place-finding devices. The next age of social development will be embodied in a better and more effective co-operation and co-ordination of ever-increasing and expanding specialization. And as labor more and more diversifies, some technique for directing individuals to suitable employment must be devised. Machinery is not the only cause for unemployment among the civilized peoples of Urantia. Economic complexity and the steady increase of industrial and professional specialism add to the problems of labor placement.

There are many passages like these in the revelation that provide a modicum of authoritative forecasting. This appears to me to be two of them. The information technology (IT) age had not surfaced at all by 1935. However, in discrete laboratory enclaves, the ENIAC and Colossus were in development. No one thought of these devices as IT. However, in 1945 ENIAC was unveiled as a computing machine. The term "information technology" was formally coined in a 1958 article by Harold J. Leavitt and Thomas L. Whisler titled "Management in the 1980s," published in the Harvard Business Review.[ref] In the article, they defined IT as the technology for processing and distributing information through digital means. They wrote: "The new technology does not yet have a single established name. We shall call it information technology (IT)."

Knowing what we think we know now about IT, the Archangel’s words ring true even today. It was these two passages that mapped me back to Toffler’s ideas. He writes and expands upon these very areas. [ref]

“By the nineteenth century, as more and more work shifted into the factory, the pin story was repeated again and again on an even-larger scale. And the human costs of specialization escalated accordingly. Critics of industrialism charged that highly specialized repetitive labor progressively dehumanized the worker.” [ref]

On the navigation button "Topics" in the header of all my pages is a pull down that will display multiple topics for which I have provided hopefully thouight-provoking essays. There could be hundreds more, maybe thousands. The revelation is that replete. I will be adding topics as time permits. Each topic will have a short blurb or trailer to define a meta-level snip of how the revelation addresses it. In each case, there is a “Read more” button for anyone who wishes to see what can be consumed for further information. In many cases I will merely point to a document, video, podcast, YouTube, or some other means (Netflix possibly) that I feel adds value to the topic. In some cases, these will be whole artifacts that others have published; some may be on other public websites. In those cases, I will point to them with hyperlinks. I plan on implementing a forum, or discussion portal for commenting and further communication with me or others in the ensuing near future.

In addition, I have added a second page of concepts some of which are still TBD. (As of July 2024, five are active). The link at the bottom of the page (Next Page of Concepts ») will bring it up as a separate page.

  7. Toffler, Alvin. The Third Wave. First ed., William Morrow, 1980. Pg 49. Toffler's Third Wave theory emphasizes the profound shifts brought by the information age, where technological advancements accelerate societal change. This wave, characterized by the move from an industrial to a knowledge-based society, introduces the concept of future shock—a sense of disorientation due to the overwhelming speed of change and specialization. The Urantia Book passages (81:6.30 and 81:6.31) resonate with Toffler’s ideas, highlighting the danger of rapid specialization without adequate mechanisms for coordination and cooperation. As technical and industrial skills diversify, the passages warn that such specialization, without proper integration, may weaken society. However, both Toffler and The Urantia Book suggest that the intelligence capable of creating these innovations should be able to manage their effects. Toffler’s future shock aligns with the need expressed in The Urantia Book for new techniques to direct individuals toward suitable employment. This reflects the growing complexity of labor in the Third Wave, where knowledge and specialization must be harmonized with evolving social and economic systems to prevent societal disintegration.
