The Global Endeavor

During the summer of 2007, Neal Waldrop contacted me to share that he was spearheading an independent project focused on the revelation of the master seraphim, as outlined in Paper 114 of The Urantia Book. It was a timely call. I had reached that stage in my life where my children were mostly “on their own” and I was looking for an outlet to “operationalize” my desire to live the precepts, principles, and teachings I had been studying in ‘ol Blue since the middle 1970’s.

Neal further informed my he had just developed “with the help of an ad-hoc committee of the Urantia Foundation a draft plan that was targeted for idealistic service to individuals and groups in society who wish to promote progressive growth and development in their own fields of experience, knowledge, or interest.” However, in January 2007 the Trustees decided that the Foundation was not in a position to sponsor it. Instead, they encouraged individuals to pursue the initiative independently. The Global Endeavor’s fundamental goal is to promote the progressive growth of human society and civilization, while seeking to serve others in the spirit of the master seraphim. The plan is indeed global, but the idea was, and is, to start small and develop bit by bit.

That was seventeen years ago; I was a youthful sixty years old. During these past seventeen trips around the sun, my role as Vice Chair mainly consisted of the care and feeding of the modest website (www.globalendeavor.net) that hosts the various documents and secondary works that explain the program as well as attending committee meetings every quarter. Amazingly, Neal has been able to recruit volunteers from the body of readers who speak French, Spanish, and Portuguese to translate the essential documentation which is also on the website. ...

Reframing the Global Endeavor’s Regional Structures

The administrative design of the Global Endeavor, as originally proposed in Neal’s Waldrop’s original 2008 essay The role of administrative complexity in the design of the Global Endeavor reflects a deep commitment to balancing flexibility, shared authority, and structured supervision. Its guiding philosophy - grounded in the principles of The Urantia Book - seeks to empower diverse working groups while preventing potential pitfalls of centralized authority or unchecked autonomy. While the design is thoughtful and pragmatic, its focus is primarily problem-oriented, constructing systems around the anticipation of challenges. This approach, ...

Comments on Question 2-3

This essay is scheuled for posting in January 2025. The question is: The plan states that a member of a substantive working group must have significant experience or professional credentials in one or more fields that the working group covers. The requirements for an associate are not as strict, but the plan says that an associate must at least have a strong interest in one of these fields. Can someone who has no background in any particular discipline participate in the work of a working group?

Comments On Chapter 5
of the Draft Plan

Chapter 5 is called Working group activities. It offers six meta initiatives that working groups might employ to interact with one of the ten segments the Global Endeavor identifies as major support areas to service. They are: information activities; networking and problem solving; private dialogue; meetings and forums; publications; and nurturing potential interest in the revelation. This essay is scheduled for late January 2025.
